Trail Rides With Leigh Creek Outfitters

Whether you're looking for a quick scenic ride or a full day in the saddle, Leigh Creek Outfitters offers guided horseback adventures through the Caribou-Targhee National Forest and the Jedediah Smith Wilderness. Every ride is tailored to your group’s comfort level—safe, enjoyable, and built around the kind of local knowledge that only comes from growing up in these mountains.

LCO operates from June 15 through September 30.

We proudly collaborate with Grand Targhee Resort to offer 1 and 2 hour trail rides!

What To Expect

  • Our Locations & Trail Access

Trail rides take place in the scenic North & South Leigh Creek Canyons, at Grand Targhee, and in surrounding areas in Alta, WY of the Caribou-Targhee National Forest—just outside of Driggs, Idaho. When you book your ride, we’ll send detailed directions to the exact trailhead along with any arrival instructions you’ll need. Parking is available, and most locations are easy to access with a standard vehicle (no 4WD required unless otherwise noted). Trail locations may vary slightly depending on the ride you choose and current conditions, but every route offers sweeping views, peaceful forest terrain, and a true backcountry experience—without the long, difficult trek to get there.

  • How To Book Your Ride

Booking your ride is easy. Just click the “Book Now” button anywhere on the site to browse available dates and ride options through our secure booking platform. You’ll choose how long you’d like to ride, the number of riders, and any add-ons available. Riders must be at least 8 years old, and the maximum rider weight is 280 lbs. If you’re unsure what ride is the best fit for your group or if you have special requests—like younger riders or mixed experience levels—feel free to reach out before booking. Once booked, you’ll receive a confirmation email with everything you need to know, including where to meet, what to bring, and what time to arrive.

  • What Happens Next

Once you’ve booked your ride, we’ll handle the rest. You’ll get a detailed confirmation with directions, arrival time, and a list of what to bring. On the day of your ride, plan to arrive 10–15 minutes early so we can match you with the right horse and go over basic safety and riding instructions. Our guides will help you feel confident in the saddle, no matter your experience level. We recommend bringing water, sunscreen, and wearing long pants and closed-toe shoes for comfort. If weather is a concern, we’ll be in touch ahead of time with updates—safety and rider experience are always our priority.
